Source text - English En este trabajo examinamos la orientación de los nidos de Dot-fronted Woodpecker (Veniliornis frontalis) en un sitio subtropical en el hemisferio Sur del Neotrópico. Evaluando si existe efectos de la cobertura (protección) en la orientación de los nidos. Teniendo en cuenta los trabajos previos realizados en esta temática nos preguntamos si las orientaciones de los nidos protegidos y desprotegidos son al azar. Basándonos en la hipótesis de que las temperaturas medias anuales influyen en la orientación de la entrada de los huecos (Wiebe 2001; Landler et al. 2014), esperaríamos que los nidos desprotegidos orienten al sur para evitar una sobreexposición al sol; mientras que nidos protegidos orientaran al azar ya que la vegetación circundante los protege de la radiación solar.
Translation - Spanish In this work, we examine the nest orientation of the Dot-fronted Woodpecker (Veniliornis frontalis) in a subtropical location in the Southern hemisphere of the Neotropical realm. Assessing whether there are coverage (protection) effects in nest orientation. Taking into account previous works on this topic, we wonder if the orientation of covered and uncovered nests is random. Based on the hypothesis that the average annual temperatures affect the cavity entrance orientation (Wiebe 2001; Landler et al. 2014), we would expect uncovered nests to be oriented Southwards to avoid solar overexposure; while covered nests to be randomly oriented given that the surrounding vegetation protects them from solar radiation.
