First, we will emphasize its 45-year Apartheid history from 1948 to 1993. It was characterized by segregation between the white, the black and other races. By means of laws and mandatory documents the segregation was systematized up to a very detailed level. In order to preserve that system, the regime used cruel violence, especially during the decade of the 80s with President Botha. The country inherited from that system a significant inequality between black and white people, whose marks are visible up to these days.
Secondly, we will highlight the enormous resources that the country contains in the form of raw material, arable land and infrastructure.
Its mining reserves have one of the major concentrations of resources in the world, such as gold, diamonds, coal and other minerals. Mining contributes to about 20% out of the total exportations of South Africa, while it is also a source of raw materials for local industry.
Agriculture has a strong basis in spite of the presence of several deserted areas. It receives the help of a temperate climate and counts with a huge area of fertile lands, resulting in a diversity of plentiful crops.
Maize, sugar, tobacco, wheat, potatoes and fruits are some of the cultivated products, where sugar, corn and fruit take an outstanding place for exportation. After corn, wool is the second farm product for exportation. Apart from mutton breeding, there are also cattle and milk-cows, which are the base for dairy produce, such as butter, condensed milk, powder milk, cheese and fresh milk products.
Tourism is also a source of wealth for South Africa, due to the association of its natural beauty and the good infra-structure of roads and accommodations. Wild animals can be watched at their normal habitat, among them lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceros and buffalos, apart from a large variety of birds, reptiles, amphibious and mammals, etc.
In spite of its richness, South Africa is classified as a medium-developed country, but in fact the rich part of it is high-developed, whereas the poor part is still a low-developed country.
In this task you are going to have the opportunity to get to know the basic facts about this country and to link them with the people’s real life.

Tout d’abord, nous nous appesantirons sur son histoire, qui fut dominée par 45 années d’Apartheid de 1948 à 1993. Elle fut caractérisée par une ségrégation entre les Blancs, les Noirs et les autres races. Au moyen de la législation et des documents obligatoires, la ségrégation fut systématisée jusque dans les moindres sphères. Afin de perpétuer ce système, le régime avait recours à une violence cruelle, en particulier au cours de la décennie 1980 du temps du président Botha. L'héritage de ce système fut une profonde inégalité entre les Noirs et les Blancs, dont les marques sont perceptibles jusqu’à nos jours.
Deuxièmement, nous présenterons dans ses grandes lignes, les énormes ressources que regorge le pays, à savoir les matières premières, les terres arables et les infrastructures.
Ses réserves minières ont l’une des plus grandes concentrations de ressources au monde à savoir l'or, le diamant, le charbon et autres produits miniers. Les mines contribuent à hauteur de 20% à l’ensemble des exportations d'Afrique du Sud, et constituent également une source de matières premières pour l'industrie locale.
L’agriculture en est un maillon fort en dépit de la présence de plusieurs zones désertées. Elle bénéficie des faveurs d’un climat tempéré, et compose avec une vaste zone de terres fertiles dont la conséquence est une diversité de cultures abondantes.
Le maïs, le sucre, le tabac, le blé, les patates et les fruits sont entre autres produits cultivés ; le sucre, le maïs et les fruits constituant l'essentiel des exportations. Derrière le maïs, la laine constitue le deuxième produit agricole destiné à l’exportation. Mis à part l’élevage des moutons, il y a également le bétail et les vaches laitières, qui constituent la base des produits laitiers tels que le beurre, le lait condensé, le lait en poudre, le fromage et les produits laitiers frais.
Le tourisme constitue également une source de richesse pour l'Afrique du Sud, du fait de l'association de sa beauté naturelle à ses bonnes infrastructures routières et ses logements. Il est possible de regarder les animaux sauvages dans leurs milieux naturels. Ils comprennent entre autres les lions, les léopards, les éléphants, les rhinocéros et les buffles aux côtés d'une riche variété d'oiseaux, de reptiles, d'amphibiens et de mammifères.
En dépit de cette richesse, l’Afrique du Sud est classée comme pays émergent. Mais en réalité, la partie riche est très développée, contrairement à la partie pauvre qui reste sous développée.
