I have always kept up my British passport, but I live in Denmark, and as soon as Denmark allowed dual citizenship in 2016, I applied for full citizenship. In practice this meant voting rights to the Folketing, but I pay tax and have all the same responsibilities as native Danes. I want to vote for the parliament that makes drastic decisions that affect my life!

Yes and I'm getting a new one today (thanks for reminding!). The old one hadn't expired yet, but my ID card had and I chose to change both at the same time.
ID cards are still quite new in my country and not mandatory until next year (or so I've heard), but I got one as soon as I could to avoid carrying around (or rather forgetting) my passport at all times in case I might need it.

I have always kept my UK passport.
I live in Italy and have Italian citizenship, but no passport.
Since Brexit, when returning to the UK on holiday, they have asked me for an Italian document to prove that I live abroad.
So I produce the Italian ID card, which I also have to take with me anyway, because my Covid vaccination certificate issued in Italy has my maiden name, like all Italian documents, while the British passport is in my married name!

Yes, I have, because I had to travel outside of my Europe zone.
But please don't ask me to send my passport via Google Forms along with clients references, CV, diplomas, my best rate, my favourite colour, etc.

I asked Christine to post this poll on my behalf mainly because I was curious about people who DON'T have a passport.
Obviously some language pairs would never require international travel (e.g. Welsh and British English) but are there perhaps translators out there who have NEVER been to the country of their source (or even target) language? If so, why?

I issued one, but my family didn't permit me to travel abroad.I respect their worries and concerns and stayed in Egypt.
I didn't renew it when it expired.

The most recent passport (US) that was issued to me expired in 2018. I decided to not renew it at that time since all my friends and clients who live in Europe and the UK are very close to my age, or much older, and now have more than just minor, routine health issues. Also, I don't want to have to put up with all the hassles involved in international airline travel anymore. I think, instead of going abroad at this point, if at all anymore, I might go with a group to New England (Boston is my fa... One of the most spectacular views I have ever enjoyed was when we reached the tip of Cape Cod, right when the sun was setting. Talk about perfect timing! I'd like to go to Alaska, too. Too bad California's in such a bad mess anymore. In, 1974, when we moved to Monterey, where we had a view of the Pacific Ocean from our bay window, California was a very beautiful place, whose ever-changing, varied landscape along the highway from San Diego to San Francisco, made it seem like 5 countries rolled into one. But I don't think I'll ever go back there again because now it's a total mess, due to all kinds of bad management, over at least a period of a few decades by now. I am also interested in traveling around Alaska. I'd love to go back to western Colorado; I remember the trees up in the mountains around Vail, their leaves at the peak of fall colors. So beautiful! All of those places were, and perhaps would be great places to visit. But I wouldn't want to live in any of them anymore, since their state and city governments seem to be taxing the residents into oblivion.

I have my Turkish passport but it doesn't have much power. I am not the kind who loves traveling, especially abroad. But I wish I could see Italy. I've been translating from Italian for years, yet I am not able to go there.
The Italian embassy has delegated the visa applications process to private companies, which collect the application documents and finger-prints on behalf of the embassy. And they require the applications to be made in person. They have offices in some major cities in Turkey, but not in Adana, where I live. Their closest office is 233 kms from here. But they designated my city to be under the responsibility of another regional office in Antalya, and that's 609 kms from here. So I should take my wife and my daughter on a 609-km trip so that we can apply for a visa, for which I should also produce tens of documents, from bank statements to tax chart and so on, with the hope that they might consider us worthy of a touristic trip to Italy. That's very humiliating. So I have never been to Italy, and it seems never will I.
