I would like to add to the free software discussed in this article, TMbuilder - a fast and straightforward tool developed by Tomasz Ankudowicz (http://ankudowicz.com/tmbuilder/)

TMbuilder accepts two input formats: tab-delimited text files and MS Excel spreadsheets.

Best regards,
Quang Ngo

The screenshot looks nice, but it's a closed source tool. This essentially means you have no control over - or information of - what it does; you have to trust the tool's maker that it doesn't contain a virus. Given that I know nothing about Tomasz Ankudowicz, I'm not going to take that leap of faith, and this is also why I won't include this tool in the article.

I know it's almost certainly legitimate, but almost certainly is not good enough for me.

A possible bug Nov 16, 2014

Hello, Many thanks for the article as well as for the tool.
I might be wrong, but it seems that there is a possible bug when one tries to create the TM via aligner.
Once the Excel file is edited, saved and closed the aligned_*.txt does not seem to get updated.
However the conversion via TMX maker works smoothly.
I used Windows 7 with MS office 2010
Thanks once again.
Cheers
Ashish

I was trying to align English source and Hindi target files.
An online site gave me the most correct alighment, but gave the output in tmx format.

I was strugging with how to read the tmx/ xml file, then I stumbled on your above article.

first option of ApSIC_Xbench didn't work, because it is downloading from tmx to txt file, but that was not utf-8 so all hindi part was coming as ?????.

then I saw your tmx2tabbed, and as a translator I already had LF aligner (which didn't align my files well originally).

And your tmx2tabbed converted tmx to two colmun tabbed in a jiffy, and when I opened that in xlsx (being a csv file) it opened well and I could see just two column one have en and other having corresponding hi.

an entire day of search through net got rewarded.

I am so much thankful to you. so I thought that I should drop a line.

Thanks again, dear sir.
