I voted 'Other' because I organize my TMs by client, and then by subject if the client has projects in more that one significant subjects. Regards, Elías

No option suitable - "Don't use TMs" should have been included.

By end-client. Except for legal topics, which I keep all in one big TM.

I'm surprised not to find this as an option. Almost every translator and agency I know divides memories by end client.

Me too, always by client as many of my TM´s are customer sensitive

And it's sometimes a problem if agencies don't state clearly which customer it is, or it is a new one and I realize this too late...

By end-client (also). Let's be practical. Renault may use the same automotive terms in a different way from its competitors. And of COURSE we have to separate language combinations.
Other - by client | Jul 13, 2009 |
Strange, such a logical way of TM organization - "by client" is missing from the list.
Combination... | Jul 13, 2009 |
I have some client-specific TMs, some subject-field TMs and a big overall TM for each language pair I work in. Agencies sometimes send job-specific TMs, which may be very small and client-specific or larger and subject-specific. As it is possible to work with two TMs at once, it is sometimes useful to combine them, especially when the agency's TM is very small - there may be more hits in my own background memory, but new segments are not registered in it. Very occasionally I make an extra copy of the uncleaned, file, remove client-specific details and segments that are unlikely to turn up again, and then clean the remaining text into my own TM - this adds standard phrases and useful expressions, which can then be found in the concordance. Recently I have begun to edit my TMs in Wordfast, removing segments that will never be repeated, names and addresses etc. It's a big job, but will get easier with time if I do it regularly! ▲ Collapse
