Source text - English Magnetik / Wells
Wells is an electronic experimental project by Moimir Papalescu (The Nihilists). The concept was inspired by the book War of the Worlds by British sci-fi writer H. G. Wells. We chose a mysterious photograph of Hale Bopp comette in the night sky by Leo Kulinsky jr. for the CD cover. The californian photographer could only supply us with a picture of a stamp size, because he lost the original negative, so we decided to have the photo reproduced by a talented young artist Zdeněk Daněk. The booklet became a multilayered association of Well‘s literary work.

The Games is another book from the Egon Bondy edition, with its charasteristic photograph of the visionarist on the cover. Theatrical performance of Egon Bondy’s Games can be seen in Bouda Theater in Prague. Unfortunatelly, the author passed away in spring this year, during rather absurd circumstances..

Wells je elektronické experimentální album Moimíra Papalescu (The Nihilists). Základní idea vzešla z inspirace knihou Válka světů od britského autora science fiction H. G. Wellse. Na obal jsme vybrali tajemnou fotografii Hale Bopp komety s noční oblohou. Její autor Leo Kulinsky junior, který žije v Kalifornii, nám bohužel oznámil, že může dodat pouze fotografii o velikosti poštovní známky, neboť ztratil negativ. Rozhodli jsme se nechat fotku nakreslit mladým malířem Zdeňkem Daňkem a booklet se tak stal vícevrstvou asociací Wellsovy literární práce.

Hry jsou další z publikací edice Egona Bondyho s již známou fotografií revolucionáře na obálce. Divadelní ztvárnění her Egona Bondyho jsou nyní k shlédnutí v pražské Boudě. Autor bohužel zemřel letos na jaře mimořádně nesmyslnou smrtí.

Having grown at an annual rate of 3.2% per head since 2000, the world economy is over half way towards notching up its best decade ever. Market capitalism, the engine that runs most of the world economy, seems to be doing its job well.
But is it? Once upon a time, that job was generally agreed to be to make people better off. Nowadays, that's not so clear. A number of economists and politicians think that it ought to be doing something else: making people happy.
Much of this draws on the upstart science of happiness, which mixes psychology with economics. Its adherents start with copious survey data, such as those derived from the simple question put to thousands of Americans every year or two since 1972: "Taken all together, how would you say things are these days - would you say that you are happy, pretty happy or not too happy?" Some of the results are unsurprising: the rich report being happier than do the poor. But a paradox emerges: affluent countries have not got much happier as they have grown richer.
Capitalism indeed is adept at turning luxuries into necessities - bringing to the masses what the elites have always enjoyed. But people come to take for granted things they once coveted from afar. As they achieve a better standard of living, they become inured to its pleasures.

Světová ekonomie dosahuje od roku 2 000 ročního nárůstu 3,2% na osobu a je tudíž na nejlepší cestě k tomu, aby zaznamenala nejsilnější dekádu v dějinách. Zdá se, že tržní kapitalismus, motor jímž je hnána většina světové ekonomiky, odvádí svoji práci skvěle.
Je tomu ale opravdu tak?
Již před mnoha lety bylo všeobecně odsouhlaseno, že zaměstnání má sloužit k tomu, aby lidé byli bohatší.
Dnes tomu je ale trochu jinak. Mnozí ekonomové a politici se domnívají, že zaměstnání by mělo mít jiné poslání: činit lidi šťastnými.
Tato teorie čerpá z nauky o šťěstí, nové vědy, která slučuje psychologii s ekonomií.
Věda vychází z velmi obsáhlé analýzy dat. Například od roku 1972 byla Američanů jednou za dva roky položena stejná otázka: Pokud zvážíte všechny své okolnosti, považujete se za šťastného, relativně šťastného, nebo spíše nešťastného člověka? Některé výsledky nepřekvapují. Bohatší se cítí šťastnější než chudí. Ve studii se však objevuje paradox: Bohaté země se nestaly šťastnějšími tím, že zbohatly.
Kapitalismus je odborník na proměnu luxusu v něco, bez čeho bychom se neobešli. Přináší masám to, v čem si vždy nacházely oblibu elity. Lidé si však neváží toho, po čem v minulosti prahli. Jakmile dosáhnou lepší životní úrovně, začnou si na své nové radosti přivykat.
