Neked melyiket a legkönnyebb elolvasnod? Vajon egy diszlexiás gyereknek melyiket lenne könnyebb elolvasni?

Teaching foreign languages for dyslexic children

According to the current state of science, autism spectrum disorder is present in 1/44 of people, while dyslexia affects 15-20% of the population.

In my article today I would highlight dyslexia as one of the learning disabilities that are likely to be encountered by all teachers during their careers.

Dyslexia is a partial disability related to reading and learning to read. If a teacher is asked what help they can provide to a dyslexic student, they can send a sample document to the inquirer by e-mail in which the text spacing is 1.5 (so the lines do not flow when reading) and is in the Arial or Comic Sans fonts. These fonts are clear cut and do not contain decorative elements, so they are easy to recognize and less likely to be confused with other letters. The student or their parents can indicate whether this document is appropriate for their education.

For simplicity, let's compare these words written in seven different fonts. The effect is different, isn’t it? Which one is the easiest for you to read? Which one would be easier for a dyslexic child to read?

Bio

My interest in languages started in secondary school where I studied both Italian and French. Before becoming a French language teacher in 2008 I used all the opportunities to improve and understand different dialects. I worked in countries where French is spoken as a first language, including Paris, Lyon, France, and Geneva, Switzerland.  After graduating as a French teacher with Ba Ed from university in Szeged, Hungary.

I worked as a language teacher and freelance translator in different fields, including healthcare (marketing services and translating for foreign nationals undertaking surgeries and dental treatments), law and legal documents (birth certificates, incorporation certificates, divorce petitions, child arrangements, financial issues...). Recently I worked on subtitling projects and translating websites both in French and Italian.

Through subtitling and websites, I worked in multilingual teams which made me understand that new projects require a team of multilingual experts. I formed a company with an English and Slovak language teacher and translator, living in the United Kingdom, near Watford, and built up a team of reliable linguists to enable me to accommodate longer texts in a shorter time frame. We use the CAT program Memoq to convert files with different extensions and to strengthen the consistency.

Mots clés : I am a French language teacher with 15 years of experience also fluent in Italian. I lived and worked abroad in France and Belgium as a medical secretary and customer service representative. I am more than happy to support the growth of your company by setting up and translating your web page and working along with you from the start.
