Quietly bustling chickadees flit from tree to tree, a lively troupe of gymnasts. Hares hop over the bare fields of stubble as the ponderous wings of crows fill the air, startled into flight. The offending gunshot sharply heralds the gleeful renewal of the hunting season.

The air, wondrously clear and delectably fresh, traces everything with the sharpest of contours. High above, in a sky of unbelievable blue, the sun laughs as its rays conjure up a fountain of innumerable diamond sparks through the dew-laden leaves.

Yet, all is interwoven with a voile of gossamer silver as far as the eye can see. It covers the grasses and the stubble, every trunk and signpost. The argentine veil envelops planks and fences; it flies in our faces and clings to our clothes. Even the ugly scarecrow and the old boot on the fence post seem adorned by some sweet fairy. It did not shy from the dung heap either, fragrant under a silver carpet of dewy pearls.

Bio

The gist

I am a linguist (as in, MA in linguistics) with a background in biology and research experience in both fields. Avid reader, gamer, enthusiastic language learner, and curious writer committed to thorough work.

Particularly comfortable with projects focused on:

  • immigration
  • language policy & pedagogy
  • endangered languages
  • agroecology
  • climate change
  • biodiversity & conservation
  • ecology & zoology
  • indie games

Background details

On the biology side, you get a translator with research experience in biogeography, ecology, and evolution, as well as neuroscience labs. Big fan of good old field work biology and citizen science, too.

On the linguistics end of things, you get a translator with active consultancy experience in phonetic transcription and TTS proofreading. Plus, you'd be working with a linguist with research experience in in projects ranging from analysis of archival material to critical linguistic anthropology. I also worked with corpora and discourse analysis for my thesis.

In addition, I started a science and linguistics communication blog, both for writing practice and for highlighting some of the cool research I find on my casual Google Scholar expeditions.
