Source text - English In his preface to Antiquarian Books: An Insider’s Account (David & Charles, 1978) Roy harley lewis wrote that ‘the role played by antiquar- ian books in world trade is, financially, quite insignificant’. that is putting a flattering spin on it. If you replace the word ‘antiquarian’ with ‘second-hand’, then the financial impact on the global economy shifts from ‘quite insig- nificant’ to ‘laughably trifling’. It was into that world that I stepped when I bought a bookshop in 2001, just four years after Amazon started selling cut-price books online. I now dream of my business making as much as even a laugh- ably trifling dent in the global economy. In a further sign of appalling business acumen, I’m now responsible for this book, which attempts to bracket my customers unkindly into broad categories which will undoubtedly offend the very people on whom I depend for a living. this should surely seal my financial fate.
Translation - Korean 로이 할리 루이스는 『고서: 내부자 진술』(데이비드 앤 찰스, 1978년)의 서문에서 “고서가 세계 무역에서 담당하는 역할은, 재정적으로, 아주 미미하다”고 말했다. 호의적인 해석이 아닐 수 없다. 여기에서 ‘고서’를 ‘중고 서적’으로 바꾸면 세계 경제에 미치는 재정적 영향은 ‘아주 미미한’에서 ‘터무니없을 정도로 보잘 것 없는’이 된다. 2001년, 서점을 인수하면서 나는 바로 그 세상에 들어갔다. 아마존이 온라인에서 할인가로 책을 팔기 시작한 지 고작 4년 밖에 되지 않은 시점이었다. 이제 나는 내 사업이 세계 경제에 터무니없을 정도로 보잘 것 없는 영향이라도 미치기를 바란다. 그것도 모자라 이제는 형편없는 사업 감각을 더 보여주는 이런 책까지 쓰고 있으니, 내 손님들을 폭 넓은 범주 안에 무자비하게 싸잡아 넣으려는 이 같은 시도는 나의 생계를 책임지는 이들을 분명 불쾌하게 만들 것이다. 나의 재정적 운명은 필시 이 책에 달려있으리라.

Source text - English AROUND 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO, A MASSIVE
STAR EXPLODED. NOT ORDINARILY A BIG DEAL—
happens all the time across the universe. But this particular doomed star lived near the Milky Way galaxy, and its explosion rocked to life our cold, dusty, and previously empty corner of the universe.
Details are hazy this far back, but our best guess on how things played out goes something like this: The shock wave sent dust particles and gas remnants swirling. Gravity yanked on that cloud of stardust, condensing it and whipping it around until its particles spun into a white-hot disc. The blazing center of that disc would become our sun, and the fiery clumps flinging off the perimeter would cool off over the course of a couple hundred million years, taking the eventual form of the planets and solar system we know today.
Translation - Korean 약 45억 년 전 거대한 항성이 폭발했다. 우주에서는 소소한 일들이 늘 일어나지만 운이 다한 이 항성이 우리 은하 근처(태양계가 속해 있는 은하-옮긴이)에 살았던 탓에 이 폭발은 차갑고 먼지투성이인데다 텅 비어 있던 우주의 한 귀퉁이에 생명을 가져왔다.
자세한 내용은 정확히 알 수 없으나 그 후 일어난 일에 대해서는 다음과 같이 유추해볼 수 있다. 먼저 충격파를 받아 먼지 입자와 가스 잔여물이 하나로 뒤엉키게 되었다. 중력이 이 자욱한 소성단을 잡아당겨 압축하고 휘저어 뜨거운 흰색 원반으로 만들었다. 이 원반의 엄청나게 뜨거운 중심부는 우리의 태양이 되었고 주변부에서 분출한 불덩어리들은 수백만 년에 걸쳐 서서히 식어 종국에는 오늘날 우리가 아는 행성과 태양계의 형태를 갖추게 되었다.

Source text - Korean 본 연구는 도시 및 건축형태요소가 건축물군의 에너지 사용량에 미치는 영향을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 건축물 에너지 사용량에 영향을 미치는 미시적 요소로 도시형태 및 도시조직, 건축물 형태 및 특성 등의 요소를 중심으로 접근했다. 이러한 분석을 위해서 2018년 건축물 에너지 사용량 자료 중 대전시와 제천시 원도심 지역의 건축물들의 에너지 사용량 자료를 중심으로 분석을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 건축물 에너지 사용량 연구에 다수 사용되어 온 OLS를 이용하기 위해서 종속변수에 Log를 취했다. 분석결과, 도시형태 및 도시조직 변수들은 모두는 아니었지만 대체로 건축물 에너지 사용량과 유의미한 관계를 맺고 있었다. 도시형태 관련 요소의 경우 밀도가 높고 공간구조적으로 소블록화 될수록 에너지 소비량 감소에 효과가 있을 것으로 파악되었고, 건축물 관련 요소의 경우 노후화가 진전되고 조적조 건물일수록 에너지 소비 효율이 낮은 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 도시형태적 특성이 다른 상황에서는 도시형태적 특성이 건축물 에너지 사용량을 설명하는데 차이가 있음을 보여, 건축물 단위의 에너지 효율 개선 외에도 도시형태적 개선 노력이 병행되어야 한다는 필요성이 확인되었다. 본 연구결과는 추후 건축물 에너지 사용량 저감을 통한 지속가능한 도시, 회복력 있는 도시 조성의 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Translation - English This study aims to identify the impacts of urban and building form on the energy consumption of buildings. It applies microscopic elements such as urban form and tissue, building form and character, as factors affecting the energy consumption of buildings. To this end, the energy consumption of Old Downtowns of Daejeon City Jaecheon City in 2018 was analyzed. This study performs a log transformation of dependent variables in order to use Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), a method utilized in many research focusing on the energy consumption of buildings. The analysis results show that not all but most elements related to urban form and tissue demonstrate a meaningful relation to the energy consumption of buildings. As for urban form-related elements, buildings with high density and divided into many blocks have a high energy consumption efficiency, and as for the building-related elements, timeworn masonry buildings generally have a low energy consumption efficiency. It is also found that the difference in urban form has an effect on the energy consumption of buildings, which confirms the fact that an improvement in urban form should be accompanied with the endeavor to boost energy efficiency of building unit. These results are expected to contribute to the establishment of a foundation for more sustainable cities and resilient cities through the reduction of the energy consumption of buildings.
