English to Bengali: An unplanned, overcrowded Dhaka Detailed field: Architecture
Source text - English It does not take much research work to tell us that Dhaka has lost its urban character. The city has become a place where every element of life - earth, water and air- has been poisoned. The land is strewn with garbage while the rivers and waterways are choked with plastic bags. The streets are buckled, the footpaths broken, the air thick and un-breathable. To look out at our capital, is to be greeted by a bleak sprawl of shoddily constructed buildings. There does not seem to be any planning behind the way the city is growing.
Translation - Bengali খুব বেশি গবেষনা করে আমাদের বলতে হবে না যে ঢাকা তার শহুরে বৈশিষ্ট্য হারিয়েছে। এই শহর এমন একটি অবস্থানে পৌছেছে যেখানে মাটি, পানি এবং বাতাস- সব কিছু দূষিত হয়ে পড়েছে। ভ‚-পৃষ্ঠ পরিণত হয়েছে ময়লার ভাগাড়ে আর নদী আর নৌ-পথ পাস্টিকের ব্যাগে পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে পড়েছে। পথঘাট সংকুচিত হয়ে পড়েছে, ফুটপাথ ভেঙ্গে গেছে, বাতাস জমাট বদ্ধ এবং শ্বাসপ্রশ্বাসের জন্য অনুপোযোগী। আমাদের শহরের দিকে তাকালে মনে হয়, বিবর্ণ এলোমেলো নিæমানের নির্মিত ইমারত দুঃখভরে আমাদের সম্ভাষণ জানাচ্ছে। এই শহর যেভাবে বাড়ছে তাতে দেখে মনে হয় না এর পেছনে কোন পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে।
