How revolutions are so like volcanoes, for they insist on spewing out- like a vessel- both the good and the bad that are in the belly of the society. Just as the January 2011 Egyptian revolution pulled back the veil on all kinds of positive things which dazzled the entire world with magnificence of the Egyptian character, so did it likewise put on display conspicuous negatives, perhaps the foremost of which is that contemptible situation which became obvious with the elite and the civil political intermediaries in their various schools and inclinations. That revolution truly revealed since its beginnings the extent of the failure of those elite to be wholly engaged with it in a way to ensure their subordination to it to reach the lofty goals for which the revolution began.
While it acquired its revolutionary character with the participation of all classes and spectrums of the Egyptian people the length and breadth of the country in its actions, the role of the youth in driving that revolution and lighting its first spark remains unforgettable and irrefutable. However, these young people did not possess the readiness and experience to enable them to continue the course of the revolution to its conclusion, as their intellectual stock, their political balance and their organizational, financial and propaganda preparedness did not allow them to go beyond that point where their revolutionary efforts solidified with Mubarak’s abdication of power on February 11th, 2011.
