Over the review period to the 30th September, the Net Asset Value of the Company rose by 3.2%, slightly underperforming the FTSE All-Share Index which increased by 3.4%. Over the same period, the Company's share price fell 1%. The Company performed broadly in line with the index throughout the review period, but lagged somewhat in September as the Banking, Mining and Oil & Gas sectors, all of which are significant underweight positions, forged ahead. Nonetheless, good bottom-up stock-picking continued to be rewarded, and the portfolio benefited from its exposure to a number of stocks including Tesco, Mmo2, BAE Systems and a host of UK utilities. Furthermore, the portfolio also benefited from the agreed bid for Celltech, a UK biotech company, which was a substantial holding and which was bid for at a 28% premium to the prevailing market price.

Under perioden fram till 30 september steg företagets substansvärde med 3,2 procent, vilket låg något under FTSE All-Share Index ökning på 3,4 procent. Under samma period gick företagets aktiekurs ner med 1 procent. Företagets utveckling följde i stort sett index under hela perioden men halkade efter något i september när det var god tillväxt inom bankindustrin, gruvindustrin samt olja och gas, viktiga sektorer som alla är underrepresenterade i vårt innehav visavi index. Ändå fick vi fortsatt goda resultat från strategiska inköp av aktier med god tillväxtpotential - och vår portfölj drog nytta av ett antal aktieinnehav, inklusive Tesco, Mm2, BAE Systems och ett flertal brittiska företag inom vatten, el och gas. Portföljen påverkades dessutom fördelaktigt av det antagna budet på det brittiska biotekniska företaget Celltech, där vi hade ett betydande innehav och där anbudspriset låg 28 procent över börskursen.
