Discussion

Ian Giles (asker) Jun 26, 2013:
Archaisms Anna! Working from a text written by a Swedish tycoon in ~1920 - doubtless he wasn't aware that he was meant to Swedish-ise his French!

Thanks all.
Anna Herbst Jun 26, 2013:
@ Norskpro I should have put a ;-) to end my previous entry.
Norskpro Jun 26, 2013:
@Anna Herbst Although the correct spelling in Swedish is "lavett", this is not the spelling used in the question. It was, however, the spelling I gave in my Norwegian term. I wrote the Norwegian term by mistake, but I did give the term "gun carriage" as a first answerer, which is a term so well known that I did not think it necessary to give references.
Anna Herbst Jun 26, 2013:
Norwegian? "Lavett" is the correct Swedish spelling...
Norskpro Jun 25, 2013:
French? So my Norwegian term, without an e, was a help then? :-)
Ian Giles (asker) Jun 25, 2013:
Blummin' French. I just needed to remove the 'e' to work it out... Thanks both - will let this progress and see where to award points, but both good referenced answers.

gun carriage

Would like the Swe sentence but based on this

En lavett är ett underlag för ett tungt eldvapen, till exempel en kanon.

I'd say your looking for the carriage or my term. For some reading, see

lavett

It's a gun carriage or gun mount, according to my dictionaries.
