Swedish term

företagssfär

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Government / Politics
Hello

I was actually trying to translate Wallenburgsfär but I quickly realized I needed first to translate Företagssfär which means:

So, how would you translate "företagssfär"? Literally "company sphere" but that does not really work in English

"company sphere of influence" is what it means but that does not fit in well with my segments

"Wallenburg contingent"? "Wallenburg controlled companies"? But the Walllenburgs can have a lot of power without having control (a majority of shares)

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Wallenberg sphere I think you could use this for Wallenbergsfären

@ all How about Wallenburg's business concerns???
SafeTex (asker) Aug 24, 2018:
@Charles and all I think that you are probably right from a legal perspective. The definition in Wiki for "företagssfär" that I gave in my original question underlines how vague the word is. I thought about "constellation" and "galaxy" but they are big things and the sphere may be small, then "company matrix". Any reactions to this last idea?

Thanks

"conglomerate" may work for your particular context, however in general, as a translation for this term it is not.

See e.g. what a conglomerate is:

@all I think I'll go with "conglomerate" but thanks everyone for chipping in.
SafeTex (asker) Aug 21, 2018:
@Deane and Chris Have to say that my first reaction was that the term was a bi too general and that was before I saw Chris' disagree. The problem is that it's not all companies (corporate world), but a group of "linked companies"
I wondered about "associate companies" but then one company would have to have shares in another company and that may not necessarily be the case with this Swedish word

holdings

Holdings describes generally companies that are held or part-invested in by a larger concern, investor or investment group. Given that the Swedish uses 'holdingbolag' in its description of what is meant, I thought this could be appropriate. In order to have influence on those holdings they would have to have a certain shareholding. Investopaedia has this definition of 'holdings':

Holdings are the contents of an investment portfolio held by an individual or entity, such as a mutual fund or a pension fund.

business conglomerate

Various useful examples here, including a suggestion that you might well chose to say the Wallenberg sphere.
