Swedish term

platsbit

Non-PRO Swedish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
What is a "platsbit"?

The term appears in places such as the following (a description of an invention that helps stabilize certain kinds of loads on a bicycle):

"Det är en platsbit som är fäst vid sadelstolpen som gör att strandstolen sitter stadigt och fast på pakethållaren."

Thanks

Jun 23, 2018 17:07: Michele Fauble changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Christopher Schröder, Anna Herbst, Michele Fauble

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

G. L. (asker) Jun 26, 2018:
Thank you to those who responded. It seems impossible to resolve the "typo vs. intended spelling" question without asking the person who originally wrote the sentence, so I don't think I can select any of the answers as correct for the time being.

plastic piece

Pretty sure it's a typo for 'plastbit'.

Obviously 'piece of plastic' might work better in the context.
Note from asker:
Thanks! The typo explanation occurred to me as well, but I also thought that "plats-" might refer to the "positioning" function of the invention, or similar.
Peer comment(s):

agree Agneta Pallinder : Also think it is a typo.

As in "hålla på plats".
Peer comment(s):

disagree Agneta Pallinder : I think if they had meant "fixation item" they would just have written "hållare".

Det hade sett fult ut att ha två "hållare" i meningen. Därför kallade skribenten inte platsbiten "hållare".
