vendoténidos

vendotaenids

" The Vendotaenids are the oldest multicellular megascopic brown algae recorded in the early history of evolution of plant life on planet Earth."

But apparently they're now thought to be giant sulfide-reducing bacteria, not algae:

Must be the same thing, I think.
Peer comment(s):

agree Helena Chavarria : I didn't post an answer because I saw there are different ways of spelling it; for example, 'vendotaenia'. Considered either as early algae or as sulfide reducing bacteria

Thanks, Helena :-) I think the thing is that Vendotaenia is a genus of organisms and Vendotaenids is how they're usually referred to in fossil form.
agree Cornelius Gillen : lower case for vendotaenids

The Ediacaran succession in SW Ukraine – Moldova (Fig. 1) is exposed in a series of river valleys which provide access to the entire Vendian (Ediacaran and Cryogenian) sequence. Soft-bodied fossils in the Kalus Beds include Vendotenides sp. (tubular fossils interpreted as colonial bacteria, measuring <1cm long by 0.1mm in diameter) whose biostratigraphic range has been established (Paliy, 1976; Gnilovskaya, 1979; Ischenko, 1983; Velikanov et al., 1983; Velikanov, 1985; Aseyeva, 1985; Aseyeva, 1988; Gureyev, 1988; Velikanov, 2011). Regional stratigraphic divisions (series, stages and beds) for the Ediacaran in this area are delineated in Figs 2 and 3.
