Romanian term

cât de mult greşisem

Non-PRO Romanian to English Art/Literary Music Article on famous conductor
This part of this article on famous conductor is written by a famous musician who once played in his orchestra. After describing how terrifying the first rehearsal was (because he admired the conductor so much), he explains that:

"Mă îngrozea mult prima repetiție și încă după primele măsuri ale Concertului de Brahms
mi-am dat seama *** cât de mult greșisem..." ***

I can see that "greşisem" is past perfect of "greşi", but I am not sure if he means that he was making mistakes while he was playing his instrument, or if he was wrong about something else.

I have begun this as:

"The first rehearsal terrified me and it dawned on me(or "I began to realise"), even after the first few measures of the Brahms concert, ***how many mistakes I had made***. "

Is this mistakes in the playing of the music? If not, then I need to change my translation.

@ Claudia Will you be posting this up as an answer?
Claudia Coja Apr 11, 2012:
Glad to help:)
Lara Barnett (asker) Apr 11, 2012:
@ Claudia - previous paragraph Describes how this musician was only 15 when he had been invited to play in the conductors orchestra.
Lara Barnett (asker) Apr 11, 2012:
@ Claudia Yes thank you. Now I realise what "greșisem" was referring to. I will probably use the term "deluded" as "how misjudged I had been" makes not sense.
"a DELUSION is a false belief about oneself or other people that persists despite its being at variance with the facts" http://thesaurus.com/browse/delusion
THANK YOU AGAIN.
Claudia Coja Apr 11, 2012:
Lara, I think it's not about making mistakes, but about being wrong about someone/misjudging someone (the conductor, in this case) before having the chance to know him/meet him/have a first rehearsal, etc.
Claudia Coja Apr 11, 2012:
:)) Lara
I really can;t say if it's about making mistakes in music or about being wrong (cat de mult gresisem - how wrong I was/how wrong I have been). The construction is ambiguous... I somehow think that if it was about "making mistakes", it should have been " cate greseli facusem". But there is no rule...so it;s just a guess.
Before this paragraph, is there any reference to another person? Described as " o ființa atât de completă, cu un așa simț artistic și mai deosebit de amabilă, călduroasă și înțelegătoare" ... ?
Lara Barnett (asker) Apr 11, 2012:
Claudia Coja Apr 11, 2012:
Lara Can you provide a larger context? What comes after "cat de mult gresisem"..? It seems to refer -like you said - to some mistakes in the playing, but what comes next could change it (if some explanatory sentence comes)...
