bourgeoisie satire Explanation: In her story “Miss Brill,” Mansfield describes a woman who cannot find happiness in a middle to upper class society. Miss Brill does find happiness, however, only in a fantasy world, and when she realizes her fantasy isn’t real, she loses her happiness. The way Mansfield describes Miss Brill’s life is almost comical and could be categorized as a bourgeoisie satire. - http://shortstory253.blogspot.com/2012/03/satirical-writer-m... -- An important event that caused so many Modernist American poets to invoke the international style was the "expatriate immigration." Many American writers, artists, and musicians left for Europe, looking for new inspiration and fresh starts. Among those emigrating were Eliot, Pound, Hughes, Cummings, and Frost. Once in Europe, there writers were exposed to the new avant-garde art and poetry taking place there. At this time, the writers began to draw inspiration from and to imitate European writers. T. S. Eliot began to imitate the topics and tones of the French poets Charles Bauldelaire and Jules LaForgue, the latter for his bourgeoisie satire. - https://www.123helpme.com/essay/Modernist-Poets-E-E-Cummings... -- Pasolini's career Pasolini's entrance into film came in 1957 when he worked on dialect for Fellini; in 1961, his directorial debut Accattone transferred his concern for the poor to screen. Throughout the next decade and a half, he produced some of the most startlingly powerful works in all of cinema – The Gospel According to Matthew (1964), widely regarded as the best Biblical feature ever made; searing bourgeoisie satire Teorema (1968); the joyous literary adaptations of the Trilogy of Life (1971-4) and the hugely controversial Salo (1975) - https://www.culturewhisper.com/r/cinema/preview/2629 -- “Force Majeure” A well-to-do Swedish family is on holiday at a ski resort in the French Alps. One morning at breakfast, they notice a controlled avalanche on a nearby mountain unexpectedly intensifies and appears to be barreling toward them. A split-second decision during this moment of panic creates an immediate and irreparable rift in the family dynamic, as a carefree vacation turns into a long, torturous therapy session. There’s a darkly hilarious bourgeoisie satire lurking beneath the surface of “Force Majeure,” and it’s an especially sharp study of emasculation and gender roles that will no doubt inspire spirited post-screening discussion. - https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2015/jan/02/10/ |
