While Cortland does manufacture heavy rope lift slings from other modern synthetic fiber materials such as
Technora®(Aramid), Vectran® (LCP), Polyester and Nylon (Polyamide), the most popular fiber is High Modulus
PolyEthylene (HMPE). Plasma® HMPE 12x12 rope slings are extremely durable, have superior strength/weight
benefits and have elongation properties after proof-loading, similar to wire rope. These slings are excellent lightweight
lifting tools and can be used for many land-based and marine lifting applications.

To achieve maximum strength, rope slings should never be used with a knot termination, which significantly reduces
overall rope strength; by as much as 50%.
• A properly spliced rope sling should rarely break in the spliced eye area unless that area is being cut or damaged
by external forces, the sling has been consistently overloaded or shock-loaded, or the rope fibers themselves are
too old or fatigued to provide adequate strength performance.
