Norwegian to English Bus/Financial Marketing / Market Research
I should point out from the outset that this really has nothing to do with fighting fires! It seems to be one of those odd marketing terms that has an underlying meaning, which isn't too easy to extract for a decent English translation.

So far, it has occurred on two occasions with reference to why you should choose a particular piece of new software:

"Brannslukking stjeler tid, XXXX gir kontroll og oversikt som gjør at du kan vende blikket mot nye muligheter."

and

"XXXX reduserer brannslukkingskostnadene i IT budsjettet."

Firefighting can also mean the short-term 'fixing' of problems, or suppression of their symptoms, rather than understanding and addressing the factors that cause the problem.

Unless you find it to be too strong.

The meaning of brannslukking in this context (as you probably know), is spending time and effort on fixing urgent problems and errors, instead of working according to a well defined plan.

Thank you for your suggestion Leif! I didn't realise that "firefighting" was such a widely used term within IT, so have stuck with it, contrary to my own style preferences!
