In the following sentence that occurs in the discussion of viscous resistance of a ship, what does 適宜使い分け mean?

use different formulas as appropriate
It's saying that different formulas are used, out of the three formulas, for different areas within the same layer as may be appropriate.

Discussion
Thanks, everyone.
Same engineer's approach as before:
Breaking down a complex set of phenomena (the 'laminar flow' sliding past the ship's hull at different velocities, from hull plates to the outer turbulence boundary layer of its forming wake,) by working out the viscous drag of only one of these layers at a time, applying to each the formula best designed to take its particular momentum characteristics into account.
