I am guessing they are saying the X-RLL and Y-BSE pads are 'clinging' to the granite base?

I think you are right.
かじりis often used for the screws which stuck together when you use a electric screw driver. Generated heat makes screw to stick. I don't know why surface plate get clinged...

Grip
I think it means "grip" here - ensuring that there is sufficient grip. By this I mean the amount of "grip" the screws have with whatever surface they are holding down.
Sometimes this also can be called "bite" if we're talking about how strong is the contact between the screw threads, the sheath of the screw, and the side walls of the screw hole.

In your case it\'s apparently refering to pads or plates, but again, grip could be applicable (If there is insufficient grip between two surfaces, one could slip)

If they want to avoid it, I guess they are preferring the surfaces to be not gripping, to float over one another.
In this case , grip, cling, grab, catch, etc. could describe the undesired behaviour.
