材料として柴犬(13ヶ月齢、XXX病のホモ接合体で角膜混濁を発症した個体)と対象として正常なビーグルの角膜を使用した。


How should "対象" be properly rendered in this context? I don't think "target" fits (according to what follows in the text)...

But there is this line:

対照犬の角膜固有質を構成するコラーゲン線維....

So, "control" or "contrast"?

But i can't find these in the dictionary for "対象".
