early 20th Century Indonesian novel
A very rude Dutchman asks a houseboy in an inn whether it's because he's wearing a long-sleeved jacket all day that he's 'berkunyit'. I believe this is related to the term 'panas berkunyit', which is being bandied about a lot these days by some nutter who claims to have a compromising video of Anwar Ibrahim. Notwithstanding the current usage of the term, can someone please tell me the general meaning of the term 'panas berkunyit'?

shiny and oily sweat
I found this in someone's blog, the writer associates berkunyit with "klinyit" which is Javanese meaning shiny and oily. I wonder the person's face is stickily glistening and sweating.

I think it's not, I don't exactly know Malay so you need to confirm this in Malay-English kudoz room. However, seeing this http://parpukari.blogspot.com/2011/03/panas-berkunyit-mari-l...
i think it's more to say "very hot" that the video makes you sweating rather than saying someone gets busted.
Just a thought.

Example sentence:
malah pas nunggu kita sempet poto2...wakakaka...mukanya uda acakadut berkunyit alias klinyit karena keringat dan belum mandi kembang

Thanks, Ria. I just wonder why the sensational stories about a video purporting to show Anwar Ibrahim in a compromising position is headlined "Panas Berkunyit!" Makes me think the meaning is similar to 'Tertangkap basah'. What do you think? |
Ria, I got an answer from a Malay>English query. You're right about 'berkunyit' and 'panas berkunyit' is a recent creation meaning 'hot, dirty' gossip/news. Thanks for your help. |

Just guessing, "berkunyit" may mean "berkeringat" (sweating).
