You can use this adjective to describe a person or a personality type, such as an 'egregious person'. Means something like 'extraordinary in some bad way'. 'Infamous' is perhaps more common, though. The choice would depend on context.

and you can certainly use "enfant terrible" in English in the right context

: "enfant terrible" is an excellent option in this case, but I have never come across 'bad boy' in direct use. It would see pointless to *translate* the French phrase when this is already in common (perhaps more literary than spoken) use.
