Hebrew term

גוף פיקוח על פרקליטות המדינה

Hebrew to English Law/Patents Law (general)
This is talking about a new body which in 2013 Tzippi Livni and Yehuda Weisntein decided to form in order to bolster the public's trust in the legal system.

supervising body over the prosecution service

I am confused here. What Livni and Weinstein are proposing is not supervision only over the State Prosecutor's Office which represents the State in legal actions but over the entire prosecution service.
See link. The Hebrew may be incorrect but that depends so much on context.

If it is unclear which body or bodies are being overseen, then I would add a note to the effect that the literal translation of the Hebrew is "Supervising body over the State Attorney's Office" but the text suggests that it would be more correct to call it "Supervising body over the prosecution service".
The Livni Weinstein proposal certainly belongs to this category and if the reference is to their proposal, I would definitely add the note. If anyone can suggest a more professional approach to this problem, I would be glad to hear it.
Whatever is decided, this is an excellent example of how translators perform their duty of care towards their clients by considering the implications of translating literally without indicating that there may be some inconsistency between their literal translation and the general context.
Anyone for machine translation!
Note from asker:
Hi Arthur, According to the reference you included, it would seem that Livni and Weinstein's original intention was for the body to supervise the PRAKLITUT and it was later agreed that it would supervise various other government bodies as well. That would fit my context very well. So you would render the PRAKLITUT the State Prosecutor's Office as opposed to various other names often used? Thanks so much for your help!

a supervisory body to oversee the Office of the State Attorney

Does this work for you?
Peer comment(s):

agree Emanuel Weisgras : although I would consider using "oversight" instead of supervisory

agree Sergio Kot : I also tend to agree with Emanuel

disagree liora (X) : The word "oversight" usually means something different. as in: "It`s an oversight"

Not at all -- the meaning is dependent strictly on context. See, for instance, https://www.google.com/search?q=site:gov oversight (21,000,000 hits on official government sites, generally with this meaning).
