Bei hochvernetztem UHMWPE können freie Radikale mithilfe zweier Methoden eliminiert werden: Remelting und Annealing.
„Annealing“ beeinträchtigt die kristalline Struktur von UHMWPE in geringerem Maße, weil der Schmelzpunkt des Polymers während des Erhitzungsvorgangs nicht erreicht wird.
Die Folge ist, dass geringe Mengen freier Radikale verbleiben.
Aus diesem Grund sind langfristige klinische Studien unabdingbar, um das Abriebverhalten von ***moderat hochvernetztem UHMWPE*** zu validieren.
Die randomisierte Studie von XXX ist in dieser Hinsicht hochinteressant, denn sie bestätigt geringe Abrieb- und Osteolyseraten bei der Verwendung von moderat hochvernetztem und „annealed“ UHMWPE während der ersten 13 Jahre nach der Implantation.

UHMWPE moderatamente altamente reticolato?? Das geht ja wohl garnicht :(
