I would use '...overlook an error..."
Hope it helps.

2 hrs
to be under a misapprehension
Thus, I have stipulated that the experiments be repeated under our supervision to exclude that we will be under a misapprehension at the very beginning of our work.
5 hrs
saddled with or burdened with
I have therefore set a condition that the experiment must be repeated under our supervision so as to avoid being saddled with an error from the very beginning.
8 hrs
to avoid carrying through an initial error
Therefore I imposed the condition to repeat the experiments under our supervision to avoid carrying through an intial error.

"...to minimise the risk that our work is based on an error from the start."
"...to minimise the risk that our work is based on an error from the start." Ths would be my formal translaion, an idiomatically better translation IMHO would be "..to minimise the risk that we fall for a missapprehension from the offset" which would better communicate the tone of the original.

Dear ProZ-people, seeing as how the question is now a month old and Nugent did not see fit to assign a rating to the very prompt and useful responses, please allow me to give mine:
I think the response by pog451 (the last one until now) is BRILLIANT!
High time he/she got the KudoZ!
As this example shows, there is a very real danger that your KudoZ system will founder if you do not introduce a mechanism by which to deal with non-response of askers.
It would further greatly enhance the sysetem if you made some provision for DEBATE among responders.
Hoping to find such a forum was the main reason I joined your system.
