Below there is Rule 30, extracted from the "Rules of Golf" site shown, and underneath it the German version of the same rules. Apparently, the expression used in German is a hybrid of the German terms for "Best-ball" and "Four-ball", but IMHO, it would be better to avoid a hybrid version in English.

Definitions
Three-Ball: A match play competition in which three play against one another, each playing his own ball. Each player is playing two distinct matches.
Best-Ball: A match in which one plays against the better ball of two or the best ball of three players.
Four-Ball: A match in which two play their better ball against the better ball of two other players.

What’s a scramble?

A scramble is a tournament where all players play from the same location, each taking a turn to hit. The choice of location is decided by selecting from the results of each player’s previous shot. Although all 4 players hit from the location, it counts as only a single stroke.

So let’s say your foursome tees off, one drive rests in the fairway, one in a bunker and two in the rough. Naturally you choose to all hit from the lie in the fairway. The other three players retrieve their balls and hit from within 1 club length from where the chosen shot lie. This process is repeated until you hole out.
