innere Stauung

German to English Science Psychology Behavioural biology
How can *Stauung* be translated in this context?

The researcher is describing and analysing an experiment. In his analyses he comes to the conclusion that a behavioural sequence is not just triggered by environmental factors, but also innate to the insect.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Discussion

Sabine Reynaud (asker) Mar 8, 2014:
in some of the experiments. He also cites observations made by him or other researchers.
philgoddard Mar 8, 2014:
Oh, I see. Is the experimenter doing the interrupting?
Sabine Reynaud (asker) Mar 8, 2014:
Stauung vs. Starrheit Stauung refers to some sort of internal pressure that is building up, I believe, because the wasp is repeatedly interrupted during the execution of the behavioural sequence.
philgoddard Mar 8, 2014:
Thanks. I think I see what it means now, though I'm not sure how I'd express it. Inherent staticity, perhaps?
Sabine Reynaud (asker) Mar 8, 2014:
philgoddard Mar 8, 2014:
Could you give us a bit more context please? What does it say before and after this? What is the behavioural sequence, and how have you translated Reizschwelleniedrigung?
