fade-out reference point

As in "the fade-out reference point and the actual reference image must be stored in memory separately. I am assuming this refers to the time code, and that the reference image is where the fade out actually begins, or ends, and the fade out reference point is alternatively either the end point of the fade, or the initiation. You may want to check if fade-out is hyphenated.
