I have an idea what this would refer to, but was ultimately still a little unsure

but that would tend to suggest that they were eating in front of the opera house. I'd tend to use something like

an apres theater buffet - in the extraordinary ambiance of the opera house

Explanation:
Kulisse can mean "scenery", and that sets up a link with the Opernhaus, but I think they're usingit in the sense of "against the exotic (or similar) backdrop/setting of the Opernhaus"...

agree  Heidi Stone-Schaller: on second thought, I believe this must be it. "vor der Kulisse" would be "against the backdrop" whereas "in der Kulisse" indicates it's backstage
