Medical: Health Care
DICOM/teleradiology/HL7
Context:
"Pat. ID. - Identifikationsnummer des Patienten, für den die Nachricht angwendet wird."
I'm very puzzled by this wording. Obviously, a message can't be used on a patient. Could it simply mean "The identification number of the patient to whom the message relates" or "The patient's identification number ..."?

"the ID number of the patient, which is used for reporting purposes". You will have to tell us what is being reported to whom

sounds like a clinical trial where an ID number is used instead of a patient's name

Note from asker:
HL7 messages relate to Health Level 7, an international standard for exchanging data between different communication systems such as PACS/HIS/RIS and permits interoperability between the various information systems used in the health care system. These message can thus be reporting anything to anyone in the health care system, e.g. in a hospital or between a hospital and a doctor. |

: I don't agree with your explanation though - it means "The ID number of the patient for whom the message is used".
