Tech/Engineering - Medical: Dentistry / Extensometer
German term or phrase: Messwertaufnehmer
"Daraufhin wird die Halterung der Messuhr mit Hilfe des beigefügten Imbusschlüssels gelöst und diese so fixiert, dass der Messwertaufnehmer den Quader berührt und ein Zeigerausschlag von ca. ½ Umdrehung resultiert."

Talking about an extensometer that seems designed for measuring plasters in dentistry or something. Any number of online dictionaries translate "Messwertaufnehmer" as "readings recorder". However, I don't like that one bit, and outside of these dictionaries, the phrase doesn't seem to be used at all in normal English writing. Please help me find a more natural-sounding English translation that's used outside the dictionaries. TIA for your help.

Not only is this far, far better than "readings recorder" (what were the dictionary people thinking with that one?), but it gets a ton of Google hits. So sensor is what I went with. However, I think transducer is not beyond the realms of possibility either, so I'm going to put that in the glossary as well. Many thanks everyone - appreciate your assistance.
