German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering / CNC/NC programming
German term or phrase: Abfahren (eines Programms)
Context:

Das NC Programm wird durch den Maschinenbediener gemäß der NC Programmdokumentation abgefahren.

I'm not at all familiar with this use of abfahren. Does it simply mean that the machine operator runs the program, or that he runs through the program, or performs a trial run of the program?

agree  tectranslate ITS GmbH: I'm thinking the abfahren in this context may refer to the fact that during CNC processes, the machine head travels through a variety of positions. That doesn't change the fact that the operator is running a program, though.

runs through the program

Explanation:
Personally I prefer this - in the sense that the operator follows a sequence of on-screen instructions, perhaps, rather than automatic running of a self-contained computer program (piece of code).
