which we plan to develop for the international market

Explanation:
This is how I would read it, i.e. they have them on their list of things to develop.

needs to be developed or must be internationally

Explanation:
IMHO the German phrase *es gilt* conveys a sense of urgency, it is like a call to action. What needs to be developed is the *Saga*, I think.

agree  David Williams: Sounds like a nice colloquial solution, but whether that is appropriate here depends on the context.

adjusted for the international market

Explanation:
I read this slightly differently:

*The success of the xxx Saga depends on various factors which will need to be adjusted for the international market.*

I think the linchpin of the phrase is the *adjusting screw* metaphor, though it isn't well matched with the verb *ausgestalten*.

Please note that the relative clause *die es auszugestalten gilt* refers to *Stellschrauben* (not to *success* or *Saga*).

I'd be intrigued to know how the other answerers that opt for verbs like *develop* or *gear* would render this word in English. I don't think this is about planning to develop adjusting screws for an international market...

-> strange though that most native German speakers here (BrigitteHilgner, Trudy Peters) seem to concur, don't you think?

agree  Trudy Peters

agree  Bernhard Sulzer: yes, I believe it's the "screws"/factors that need to be adapted/changed/broadened/adjusted etc.

neutral  writeaway: "geared towards" is much more marketing speak than adapated or adjusted which is an accurate 'translation', but in this context sounds too clinical and dead as language. Would be fine in a purely engineering context.
