German term

Keimen

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Sludge separator
Context: "Diese haben die Wirkung von Desorptionskeimen" The "Diese" referred to here are "ein Geflechtskörper" and "Borsten".

"...daß das Medium ... eine Kammer mit Keimen (Desorptionskörpern) durchfliesst".
The "Keimen" are used to promote degasification.

This comes from a patent so I don't think I can provide any further information but hope someone is familiar with this usage :-)

Discussion

Sarah Silva (asker) Jun 28, 2012:
Agents is a good general term that would probably work but I think I need something more specific here. I'm going to check through the text to see whether nuclei works - it looks promising!
Vikki Pendleton Jun 27, 2012:
pretty sure I've seen 'organisms' for Keime but hard to know without the context - I understand why you can't give it but hopefully you'll know either way :)
Kate Collyer Jun 27, 2012:
Not my area, but... could they be 'agents'?

I think this is about formation of gas bubbles in a liquid.

Comparable with something most of us are pretty familiar with:

These "Geflechtskörper" and "Borsten" are not the "Keime" itself but are boosting the formation of bubble nuclei (Blasenkeime) similar to a grain of rice in a glas of beer;

Another comparable phenomenon is the formation of bubbles in rising magma:
