Deutsch term

auf Steinen gelagerte Achsen

Deutsch > Englisch Technik Produktion/Fertigung Watches
I'm translating a website for a Swiss watch manufacturer. This one technical term has me stumped. I know what it literally means (stone mounted axis) but would like confirmation from a colleague in this area what the generally used EN (UK) term is.

This appears in the 'caring for your watch' section

Das Öl im Uhrwerk ist mit der Zeit verbraucht und muss erneuert werden damit die auf Steinen gelagerten Achsen nicht verschleissen und die feinen Zahnräder nicht beschädigt werden.

All help appreciated thanks

Sorry if this is the wrong category... i couldn't work out where this one best fitted!

jewel bearings

Ruby (a precious stone) is used as bearing material in fine mechanical watches - hence watches read on their back "[number] jewels". Electronic watches normally read "NO (0) JEWELS"

agree jccantrell : My first thought, too. They speak of "jewel movement" as in: http://www.mens-watches-guide.com/jewel-movement.html
