Hope someone can help me with this entire phrase... I suppose the sense is pretty clear - that the "state of affairs" at the time of conclusion of the contract applies as the "scope of machinery" - i.e. the machinery to which the contract relates, but I am not sure how to put it together. Do we really talk about a "scope of machinery" in contracts in English? Just before it talks about "Dieser Leistungsumfang wird an dem in .... beschriebenen Maschinenumfang ausgeführt." I have been trying to steer clear of "scope of services" and "scope of machinery" but I am not sure if I can avoid them and perhaps they are perfectly normal in contractese. Can someone please put me out of my misery?

Explanation:
OK, you might just want to describe your term up in the front of your contract and then just use "Machinery" (as in "Hereinafter referred to as "Machinery"). Of course, that does not help with 'umfang' bit. Maybe you can use

The Machinery of this contract (Hereinafter referred to as "Machinery") corresponds to the exact state of the Machinery at the time of ....

If you want to get a bit more wordy, you might change 'corresponds to the exact state" into something using "includes ...." but I am not sure how to do it.

Probably all the things you thought about. Hope this helps.

You might google "used machinery sales contracts" and see what they have.

Good luck.

Explanation:
This contract shall apply to the equipment in its exact state and scope present at the time of the contract’s conclusion.

It would be useful to know what kind of machine we're talking about because depending on the type of machine there might be the additional options of "including the exact parts present at the time...," which might help to avoid "the scope."
