Mit Blick auf den Beitritt muss Estland Anpassungen vornehmen, um der EU-Liste der Länder, deren Staatsangehörige von der Visumpflicht befreit sind, u. a. durch Abschluss von Abkommen über Visafreiheit mit 17 Ländern, Rechnung zu tragen. Im Juli 2001 verabschiedete die Regierung den „Schengen"-Aktionsplan, der vorsieht, dass sich Estland weiter darauf vorbereitet, am Schengener Informationssystem (SIS II) mitzuarbeiten. Insgesamt muss das Land weitere Anstrengungen unternehmen, um den Schengen-Besitzstand nach dem Beitritt zur Union in vollem Umfang anzuwenden.
With a view to accession, Estonia must still align with the European Union list of countries whose nationals are exempt from visa requirements, in particular by concluding visa exemption agreements with 17 countries.

In other words, some nationals do not need a visa to enter certain countries. Germans, for example, don\'t have to apply for a visa to travel to the US, but Mexicans do.
With a view to accession, Estonia must still align with the European Union list of countries whose nationals are exempt from visa requirements, in particular by concluding visa exemption agreements with 17 countries.
