Bus/Financial - Insurance / life insurance
German term or phrase: Zuwachsversicherung
Zuwachsversicherung

Any ideas?

Thanks!

indexed insurance
Explanation:
usually linked to a specific index such as inflation or equities but can also simply increase by an amount agreed with the insurer, which seems close to what you've got here (and the level of pension contributions is a kind of index anyway).

'Index-linked insurance' may be too specific to work here, but 'indexed insurance' seems to be used as a fairly broad generic term

'Indexed premiums The level of cover and the premiums necessary to fund it are increased each year either by the Retail Prices Index, Average Earnings Index or an amount which you have agreed with the insurance company.'
http://www.mylife-cover.co.uk/faq.php#10

'Indexed Life Insurance - A whole life plan of insurance that provides for the face amount of the policy and, correspondingly, the premium rate, to automatically increase every year based on an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or another index as defined in the policy'

OK - thanks! I had considered "adjustable life insurance" as it seemed to fit pretty closely, but this seems to fit the bill even better.

Zuwachsversicherung

Adjustable life combines elements of traditional, fixed-premium life insurance and the ability, within limits, to alter (i.e., adjust) the policy plan, premium payments, and face amount. Adjustable life is alevel-premium, level-death benefit life insurance policy that can assume the form of any traditional term or whole life policy (within certain guidelines).

What is Adjustable Life Insurance?
Adjustable life insurance allows you to vary your coverage as your needs change.

With an adjustable policy, you normally choose the face amount you need and the premium you want to pay, and the company calculates a plan that provides coverage for your request. The resulting adjustable plan could be anything from a term policy with a short period to a limited-payment whole life policy. You can also choose the type of plan and face value you want, leaving it to the company to calculate the premium rate needed.
Note that the term "adjustable life insurance" is sometimes used differently. It is sometimes used as a synonym for variable life, in which the face amount and cash value of a policy rely on the investment performance of a special fund. Reserves are placed in investment accounts that are separate from the company's general account. Most policies guarantee a minimum face amount, but a cash value minimum is rarely guaranteed.

agree  RobinB: That's certainly the term I'd have used. Indexed policies in Germany tend to have a wider range of potential benchmarks than UK or US policies, I think, which may cause some confusion.
