German term

schließlich geht es um alles

I'm sure there is an exact translation for this but I just can't think of it.
Thanks

So what does "alles" refer to here? e.g. the last battle of Middle Earth or Brian's determination to get hold of a limited-edition toy? ;-)

after all, everthing is on the line (here)

"This is, quite simply, the most important election of our lifetime. Everything is **on the line**: our jobs, our health care, our role in the world, the character of our country – the Supreme Court of the United States. The stakes are high and the choices are clear."

(Obwohl es den Kern treffen würde: "everthing depends on bus line 18 now...")
Peer comment(s):

agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : can't get away from the nautical vocabulary, eh? But you are right; it fits quite well; still into surfboating??
