German term

Schmelzschupper

German to English Science Geology Fossils/extinct sea creatures
Or Schmelzschupperfisch

The Latin name for this is Gyrolepsis, but I cannot find any English name. Does anyone happen to know this, please?

It lived in the Muschelkalksee in Thüringen in the Triassic era.

I doubt whether most fossils have common names - there's no need.

That was what I was thinking But it looks like Brent has come up with a description, if not an actual name.
Kim Metzger Nov 26, 2020:
I think you're stuck with the Latin name. As far as I can see, the fish was given no common name in English.

agree philgoddard : I think this is a description rather than an English name, since your first reference is a different genus.
