agree  David Hollywood: chip in/do my bit (I would go with "chip in")

agree  uyuni: w/ Phil ("Beisteuern" wäre im Deutschen eigentlich gängiger...). "Contribute"/"Beitragen" passt doch hier...

agree  Susan Starling: Agree with Phil about "beisteuern". It's hard to get a feel for the correct register in English (i.e. contribute vs chip in) if we're not 100% sure of the German but probably "beisteuern" is meant rather than steuern (control, manage) as Elizabeth notes.

agree  Wendy Lewin: Don't know why, I prefer "make a contribution too"

pitch in

Explanation:
Nothing wrong with K. Isaacs 'contribute', but the tone is very casual, this might be an appropriate alternative.

agree  Johanna Timm, PhD: fits the register! "etwas dazu steuern" is actually a common idiom , cp.: https://dpsg-stotzheim.de/2019/03/06/stammesversammlung/
