benzine

Benzine is the commonly used solvent that is used as a cleaner. I've never seen a bottle of benzene standing around.

disagree jccantrell : But the German says "Keine..." so you should NOT use it. This points to gasoline.

No, this points to Benzin for cleaning purposes, which is commonly used in e.g. labs and is benzine. // Also, this is an example of a solvent: gasoline is by no means called a solvent.

petrol (or gasoline)

......within the context provided the reference is clearly (and simply) to petrol (UK) or gasoline (US) used in many situations as a (highly dangerous) cleaning agent ...><)))):>.... (...been there ...done that ....)
Peer comment(s):

disagree rainerc (X) : benzine is not petrol! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzine

neutral Richard Benham : "Petrol" is a possible translation of "Benzin", but unlikely what is meant here!

agree jccantrell : Sorry, but Benzin would be gasoline in this context. See: www.gov.mb.ca/labour/safety/pdf/bltn112.pdf
