Der nächste Schritt nach dem Mälzen ist das Schroten. Hier wird das Malz gemahlen und in die drei Bestandteile Spelzen (Husk), Schrot (Grit) und Mehl (Flour) separiert. Die drei Komponenten müssen in einem bestimmten Verhältnis vorliegen, damit in den nachfolgenden Schritten die größtmögliche Ausbeute erzielt wird.

If you delve into the first couple of refs, you'll see that "husk fineness" or "fineness of husk" is one of the criteria in evaluating barley quality and suitability in the brewing process.
