-> oh, so published translations are by definition unreliable? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

neutral  Björn Vrooman: I wouldn't go as far as Phil, but the translator clearly didn't know what to make of the word. To his or her defense, though, it's not a very well-written paragraph (it should be clear from the "können" bit that no editor has taken a look at the text).

agree  Adrian MM.: OK if English is being used as a relay or 'bridging' lingo into the asker's native lingo of Japanese where it might well work (alas, I was only at conferences & on revision courses at Cantab & SOAS/ School of *Oriental* & African Studies, London Uni. )

Window of opportunity?

Explanation:
If you went with a literal translation, it would sound very strange. Maybe something like this:
Essentially it can be noted that the window of opportunity is relatively small, and more to difficult to enter than has been found by previous studies.

agree  Björn Vrooman: I wish people would read the d-box. Since a Lösungskorridor is essentially Handlungsspielraum, this here is something I can work with. Alternatively, you got a limited number/range of options/solutions (plural!)--while the hill to climb is pretty steep.

agree  Cilian O'Tuama: Sums it up best, IMO. Path(way) hört sich fast vorgegeben an.

I wonder why my chain of links are broken? … I strived again to retrieve some of the lost examples:

Check out Infotrend Inc's latest blog post on "Analysis of Alternatives" (AoA):

This paper presents a method that permits the students to work out their own logical pathway to a solution, rather than having to recall a previously learned series of solution steps. The students begin by analyzing the information content of the problem, writing out the objective and given, following which they work out a pathway.

Initially, all of these paths offer more solutions than just one, but some are difficult to achieve and others are less effective. As a result, all efforts ultimately converge towards an effective solution that is as simple as possible.

agree  Gordon Matthews: I think "pathway..." or "way to a solution" works better as a consistent (and commonly used) metaphor: The pathway is "steep and (very) narrow". A window (of opportunity) can be narrow, but not steep.
3 hrs
-> This is true especially to a steep path, other than a window.

neutral  Björn Vrooman: Won't disagree, since I didn't with Maja--but this wording (taken from a translation of one of Frank-Walter Steinmeier's speeches) is just as unfortunate. A Lösungskorridor is a Korridor möglicher Lösungen. That element of plurality is now missing.

decision corridor

Explanation:
German really isn't my language, so I'm giving this low confidence, even if it makes perfect sense to me.

Is too much emphasis being put on the physical nature of any Lösungen rather than on the thinking that might lead to solutions being found? I have seen Lösungskorridor translated into French as corridor décisionnel which, seen from a certain angle, makes a lot of sense. Solutions will be reached by making decisions to discard some options and back others.
As in a quality-control line, where products in conformity will continue towards packaging while others will be swatted off the conveyor belt for destruction, some ideas will progress to the end of the corridor while others are pushed out side doors.
Here are some examples where I think 'decision corridor' (of which you will find plenty of examples on the Ouèbbhe) could translate Lösungskorridor.

In Lösungen denken

Here we have 'decision corridor' in a text written by a German … well, Austrian, where the original might well have been 'Lösungskorridor':

In this way, double loop learning can be enabled right from the beginning of the planning process especially addressed to strategic environmental problems. The methods support to follow a decision corridor as laid out above, in which environmentally unsustainable planning solutions can be excluded on the level of system alternatives.

Explanation:
When I translated the whole sentence, I found that "scope of action" or "solution" didn't really work that well..

"Essentially what has emerged is that we're facing more narrow and steeper pathways for those challenges than previous studies indicated."
