German term or phrase: Maskenprobe
Appears in a German employment contract for actor's in a TV-Movie as follows:

Mit der in § 3 Ziffern 1 und 2 des Vertrages genannten Vergütung sind sämtliche vom Vertragspartner übertragenen Rechte sowie sämtliche von ihm erbrachten Leistungen, insbesondere auch die Vorbereitungsarbeiten (Kostümprobe, ****Maskenprobe****, Drehbuchlesungen („cold reading“), eventuelle Fotovorproduktionen etc.) abgegolten.

I have already translated "Kostümprobe" as "dress rehearsal", and I often find the two terms written together as Kostüm- und Maskenprobe". Is "Maskenprobe" another word for "Kostümprobe", or is it something different?

The points were a tough call as each one was as good as the other, but I used Henry's suggestion in my translation as it was easiest to say in a list i.e. dress rehearsal, makeup rehearsal etc. ...

Thanks Henry, Jane and writeaway for all of your contriubtions - they are much appreciated.

Dress rehearsal with makeup

Explanation:
Maskenprobe would be a rehearsal in makeup, and I found this definition, which backs this assumption up:
Bei Film und Fernsehen:
Beurteilung der geschminkten Hauptpartien und der Frisuren vor der elektronischen Kamera oder Filmkamera

I would normally assume a dress rehearsal to be in full costume AND makeup, but maybe this isn't always the case.

Take a look at http://www.bishoplynch.org/Tech Week.htm, which although it's only for a school play, but has 2 dress rehearsals, with and without makeup

That might be the solution here, i.e. "Kostümprobe, Maskenprobe" = "dress rehearsals with and without makeup"

neutral  writeaway: afaik, a dress rehearsal implies make-up, costumes, etc. otherwise it wouldn't be a dress rehearsal./duh-didn't see it was for film found this: http://www.dthg.de/praxis/infothek/lexikon/lexikon_fenster/m...

-> Know what you mean, but found several refs to dress rehearsals without makeup. Actor is to be playing in a TV film, so Gn def. I found would definitely fit - but how best to render it in English? I know too little about film.../that's where I got quote!
