German term

Mondstation

German to English Science Astronomy & Space
This is still the text about navigation in the Arab/Islamic world. Does "Mondstationen" mean "positions of the moon" or "phases of the moon"? The only definition I can find is "lunar base", which is several centuries out!

Thanks!

Can't help suspecting there's a connection between the number 28 and the days in the lunar cycle.

lunar rising and setting points

These change according to the lunar cycle. At rising and setting, the position is spotted according to their relationship to the position of the fixed stars.

An additional aid in navigation is the shadow line on the moon, which also has a 28/29 day phase.

My refs are Hawai'ian, but should apply to your Arabic text as well.
