Explanation:
Inszenieren & its forms - don't Kunstwissenschaftler love it. My offering not much different from "staged scenes", which I'd also second; but just instinctively, maybe highlights the contrivance aspect a touch more. Depending on the pics, "symbolic settings" may also do; or for "symbolic", "referential", etc. Again depending on visual content, you might also consider "tableaus"/"tableaux" (from ye olde melodramatic composed 'stills'). Hope this doesn't verschlimmbessern it all.
